President of Armenia: Armenia will be consistent with implementation of Vienna agreements

YEREVAN, MAY 31, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia says Armenia will be consistent with the implementation of agreements reached in Vienna and will carry out works towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict which will be based on the right to self-determination of the Nagorno Karabakh people.

“Integration units successfully operate and develop in a safe environment. Security is a key factor for the development and prosperity of economies of our states. I highly stress the fact that the EAEU states are also CSTO members which aims to provide comprehensive security in our region. The escalation of the situation by Azerbaijan in the Nagorno Karabakh line of contact in early April became a serious challenge for the EAEU regional security.

The threat is obvious: our international partners will perceive the EAEU region as a zone of economic development, stability and security where it is possible to make investments and implement long-term projects, or everyone will get used to this difficult situation and will be guided by the fact that tension and split are always persistent here. I don’t think that the second scenario derives from the interests of our states”, “Armenpress” reports, President said during the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council session.

The President stated that Armenia cannot remain indifferent from the Azerbaijani aggressive actions against the Nagorno Karabakh.

“Of course, the Karabakh defense forces quickly responded to the situation taking it under their control. Here Russia played a key role to which Azerbaijan applied with the request of restoring the ceasefire regime.

A meeting was held in Vienna with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group during which an agreement was reached over the installation of monitoring and investigative mechanisms of incidents in the line of contact.

Armenia will be consistent with the implementation of these agreements and will continue finding ways of the peaceful settlement which will be first of all based on the right to self-determination of the Nagorno Karabakh people. Armenia agrees with the Minsk Group Co-Chairs that the principles of the non-use of force and threat, as well as the territorial integrity are an important base of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict”, the President concluded.
