Parliament ready to make changes in Electoral Code in case of consensus after June 1

YEREVAN, MAY 25, ARMENPRESS. Minister-Chief of Government Staff of Armenia Davit Harutyunyan says the wider the consensus over the Electoral Code, the better and more reliable it will be. “Although today we confirmed the Electoral Code, however, we are ready once more to reaffirm our statement which was issued during the second reading. If we manage to find mutually acceptable mechanisms after June 1 which will more strengthen the Electoral Code and will be more realistic, we will convoke an extraordinary session at the National Assembly and will present proposals of changes in the Electoral Code”, “Armenpress” reports, Harutyunyan stated.

He added that they will try to discuss the proposals during that time. “I hope that our willingness to continue the discussions will not remain unanswered, and I understood from our partner Levon Zurabyan’s speech that the discussions will not remain unanswered”, Harutyunyan said.

The Armenian Parliament completely adopted the Electoral Code at third reading. 102 MPs voted for, 17 against the Electoral Code. 3 MPs abstained from voting.
