YEREVAN, MAY 9, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian reaffirms that the main issue in the negotiations around the Nagorno Karabakhi conflict is the self-determination.

During a briefing on May 9 minister Nalbandian said that the U.S, France and Russia have concretely stated that the main issue in the negotiation is the self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh.

“This issue is always in the focus of the negotiations, and as a result of which everything should be done to ensure both recognition and realization of the self-determination right of Nagorno Karabakh”, he said.

To a reporter’s question as to why Armenia refrains from recognizing the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, the minister said the discussions on the bill are connected with negotiations between Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, as well as developments in the international arena. “We need to take into account that these are delicate issues, and we shouldn’t go on with emotional and sudden steps”, he added.

The Minister said the international community shares the opinion of the Armenian side, which is in line with the international community’s position. “The 5 announcements of the three co-chairs speak to this fact. As you know, till now Azerbaijan refuses those 5 announcements, which are the international community’s position on the settlement of the conflict”, he said.
