Political scientist: Issue of NKR recognition sooner or later to be put on agenda

YEREVAN, MAY 4, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan says Azerbaijan’s strong reaction to the issue of Nagorno Karabakh’s involvement in the upcoming session of the Armenian Government is related to the official Baku’s fear.

“It is obvious that Azerbaijan has a fear on the start of the Artsakh recognition process. They perfectly understand that it will be the final solution of the policy they carry out for years. Azerbaijan understood that Armenia’s recognition of Artsakh Republic will be followed by the recognition of other states.

Concerning the Azerbaijani statements against Armenia for ceasing the negotiation process, political scientist stated that Azerbaijan tries with such cases to blame the Armenian side for this. “If we look from the real political viewpoint, we see that Azerbaijan refused from negotiations, then it launched military aggression which means that Azerbaijan refuses. And now Azerbaijan tries to blame Armenia for being guilty for the existing situation”, he said.

Political scientist also spoke about the role of Minsk Group Co-Chairs stating that today a criticism should be directed to them since they had the resources to restraint Azerbaijan, however, they did not use them. He noted that the Artsakh recognition is the final solution of the existing situation. “The Armenian side will sooner or later put this issue on the agenda. Azerbaijanis must understand that if they start a new conflict, they will have serious losses. If this process will be correctly elaborated in Azerbaijan, we can hope that there will not be any clashes. However, frankly, I do not believe in that, we should not expect any adequate steps by Azerbaijan”, political scientist concluded.
