Armenian community of Australia to hold rally on April 24

YEREVAN, APRIL 20, ARMENPRESS. The executive administrator of the Armenian National Committee Arin Margarian informed “Armenpress” that the Armenian community of Australia will hold a rally on April 24.

“A number of events are scheduled to take place during the Armenian Genocide commemorative days in Australia. A candlelight vigil will take place in Melbourne, holy liturgy will be served in Sidney’s St. Harutyun church. Then, the rally will kick off from the Hyde Park towards New South Wales Parliament, which has recognized the Armenian Genocide. We will lay flowers at the Parliament’s building, after which we will move towards the “Royal” Botanical Garden, where an event is planned.

This year we want to draw attention on Australia’s support to the Armenian people in 1915. This period has been researched and materials were published in the “Armenia-Australia & Great War” book. The book was written by Vigen Babkenyan, Peter Stanley. During the April 24 event, Peter Stanley will deliver a speech”, Arin Margaryan said.

Events will also be organized in the city of Ryde, which has recognized the Armenian Genocide. The events will continue on May 17 as well. Vigen Babkenyan will deliver a lecture on that day. Arin Margaryan noted that the Armenian National Committee will send letters to Australian state structures, high ranking officials, MPs, to reconsider their position on the Armenian Genocide issue. According to him, meetings are scheduled to take place with a number of MPs.
