President of Armenia considers Minsk Group optimal format

YEREVAN, APRIL 8, ARMENPRESS. Unlike Azerbaijan, Armenia considers the Minsk Group, which plays the role of mediator in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict,  an optimal format that does not need a change, “Armenpress” reports, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said during an interview with the German “Deutsche Welle” TV channel.

“I think that the Minsk Group is an optimal format, and we cannot say that no result has been achieved during these years. The change of the format will bring nothing, moreover, we should consider the fact that the Minsk Group includes countries and especially the Co-Chair countries (Russia, France and the United States) that have sufficient resources and capabilities to have an impact on the developments in the Nagorno Karabakh. Azerbaijan insists on the format change”, said the President of Armenia.

Concerning the role of Germany in the conflict settlement Serzh Sargsyan mentioned: “Germany is now chairing the OSCE. This organization has a wide range of tools, and I am confident that it can use them very efficiently. Moreover, Germany is also a member of the Minsk Group.

The President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was on official visit to Germany from April 6 to April 7. During the visit the Armenian President met with German high-ranking officials: the President of Germany Joachim Gauck, Bundestag President Norbert Lammert, Foreign Minister of Germany, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During an interview with the “Deutsche Welle” TV channel the President answered the questions related to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the sale of weapons by Russia to Azerbaijan, about the membership to the Eurasian Economic Union and the resolution on the Armenian Genocide issue by Bundestag.
