Kerry and Lavrov discuss solutions of Syria crisis

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 9, ARMENPRESS. US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed on Thursday establishing mechanisms to avoid the two countries’ forces coming into conflict in Syria, but did not make any major decisions, State Department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters.

"[Kerry, Lavrov] talked on Syria and Ukraine, on tactical discussions and dialogue," Kirby said at a press briefing. "I wouldn't go so far as to say there were actual tactical decisions made, not a lot of decisions made on de-confliction [in Syria]." “Armenpress” reports the aforementioned citing Sputnik International.

Kirby went on, "I don't think we're at the point where there are hard and fast modalities as to what the process will look like."

The two top diplomats had a 30-minute phone conversation, initiated by the US state secretary.

According to a statement posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, Lavrov and Kerry discussed ways to settle the Syrian crisis, including the coordination of efforts in fight against ISIL militants as well as the implementation of the Minsk accords.
