Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia - busy with Armenian cemetery problems in Chisinau

YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia tries to assist, within its powers, in solving the problems connected with St. Haroutyoun Armenian Church in Chisinau, as well as the adjoining cemetery.

Deputy Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told the journalists that the Armenian chapel had been preserved due to the Armenian community’s efforts and now the problem relates to the cemetery territory. “There are legal issues here. In any case, both the Community and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, within its powers, are consistent on assisting the solution of the problem”. Armenpress reports, the Deputy Minister stated.

The territory of the Armenian cemetery in Chisinau has been privatized by a private individual who is trying to dispose of the property now. However, the church with its documents was handed to the local Armenian community in 2003. The Armenians in Moldova turned to Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Government of the Republic of Armenia with a request of giving solution of the problem.
