YEREVAN, 25 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The delegation led by Speaker of the
National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Galust Sahakyan will be
on an official visit to Canada on 22-28 May.

As the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the National
Assembly of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, on May
23, the delegation had a meeting with representatives of the
Canadian-Armenian community. During the meeting, Galust Sahakyan
mentioned that he attaches importance to the contacts with the
Armenian community and that that’s why he always plans meetings with
representatives of the local Armenian community when planning his
visits.

During the meeting, Galust Sahakyan provided details of the
legislative reforms taking place in the Republic of Armenia. Talking
about the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide,
the Speaker of the National Assembly mentioned that the Armenian
parliament was creating a parliamentary committee called “Against
Genocides”, which will address the parliaments of progressive
countries of the world with the proposal to create similar committees.

Galust Sahakyan also met with Mayor of Montreal Denis Coderre. During
the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly expressed gratitude
for the cordial reception, mentioning that he was pleased to meet with
the mayor of Yerevan’s sister city of Montreal and was well aware of
the effective cooperation between the mayors of both cities. Sahakyan
also mentioned that he was impressed with the march that brought
thousands of citizens of Montreal out to the streets to condemn the
Armenian Genocide.

The mayor of Montreal attached importance to the friendly relations
between Yerevan and Montreal and the cooperation in various sectors.

Afterwards, the parliamentary speaker and the mayor of Montreal toured
the yard of the municipality where a Forget-me-not had been prepared
on the days of the events marking the Centennial of the Armenian
Genocide with a corresponding inscription.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia laid
flowers at the Armenian Genocide Memorial.

The delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the
Republic of Armenia visited the Prelacy of the Armenian Diocese of
Canada and participated in a Holy Mass.
