Four Chinese women exploited in Yerevan, preliminary investigation is over

YEREVAN, 22 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The General Department for Examination of Specially Important Cases of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has ended the preliminary investigation into the criminal case instigated in relation to the trafficking of Chinese women in Yerevan by three citizens of China, as the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”.

The preliminary investigation showed that 3 citizens of the People’s Republic of China, reaching an initial agreement with 4 Chinese women in China, tricking them and promising jobs as massagists with high salaries, transferred them to Yerevan.

The investigation helped gather sufficient evidence showing that the Chinese women were subject to trafficking in Yerevan. Particularly, the women were kept at a hotel in Yerevan for a long time. Later, three other Chinese citizens sexually abused them and subjected them to labor exploitation and took all the money that they had earned by taking advantage of the fact that they didn’t know the area, didn’t have passports with them and were vulnerable.

Through the combination of the evidence obtained in the pre-trial proceedings, two citizens of China have been charged under the elements of Article 132 (2) (1)(2) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, and a search has been declared for the third citizen.
