Armenian Genocide issue raised at London Book Fair

YEREVAN, APRIL 27, ARMENPRESS. The London Book Fair was held in Olympia exhibition hall on April 14-16. The Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia informed “Armenpress” that the Republic of Armenia participated in this prestigious international platform with the assistance of the State Commission on Coordination of the events for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The presentation of the book titled “An Inconvenient Genocide: Who Now Remembers the Armenians?” by human rights barrister, academic, author and broadcaster Geoffrey Robertson was held in British Academy on April 15. Ambassadors and diplomats accredited to London, politicians and public speakers, leaders of the British-Armenian community, representatives of British media attended the event. In his presentation the author told the audience about the motives of the creation of the book and gave professional assessment of the Armenian Genocide. After the speech Robertson answered numerous questions of the attendees.

His book proves beyond reasonable doubt that the horrific events of 1915 – witnessed by Australian POWs – constituted the crime against humanity that is known today as genocide. In this book he explains how democratic countries can combat genocide denial without denying free speech, and makes a major contribution to understanding and preventing this worst of all crimes. His renowned powers of advocacy are on full display, as he condemns all those – from Sri Lanka to the Sudan, from Old Anatolia to modern Gaza - who try to justify the mass murder of children and civilians in the name of military necessity.

The London Book Fair is the global marketplace for rights negotiation and the sale and distribution of content across print, audio, TV, film and digital channels.

In 2015 the fair took place at Olympia, West London, and covered all aspects of the publishing industry.
