family deprived of benefits

YEREVAN, 20 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Turkey has started pressuring Armenians ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As “Armenpress” reports, citing T24, the wave of pressures against Armenians in Turkey rose after Pope Francis called the events of 1915 as “the first genocide of the 20th century” during the Holy Mass served at the Vatican on April 12.

The website reports that after the Pope’s famous speech, the only Armenian family of 59-year-old Vannis Chetinyan in the Dumluyan village of Adana (historic Armenian city in Mountainous Ciilicia) has been deprived of benefits.

The local authorities having deprived the family of benefits have announced the following: “From now on, go and get benefits from the Armenian Diaspora”. The website also reports that after the Pope’s speech, the family’s only breadwinner, Chetinyan, was fired since the Muslims of the village have refused to use his farming services.

Chetinyan told the website that the children at the village school insult and pressure his two sons. The administration illegally forces Chetinyan’s sons to attend the lessons on Islam and refer to them as “gyavurs” (infidels).

Chetinyan says most of the Armenians of the village were killed on the death march following the Armenian Genocide, some reached foreign countries, and a few converted to Islam to save their lives.
