YEREVAN, 1 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. A new two-volume book devoted to the history and traditions of embroidery in Aintab has been released with the preface by First Lady of the Republic of Armenia Rita Sargsyan. On April 1,teacher of the AGBU Aleppo Martiros Saryan Academy Hrazdan Tokmajyan presented his book “Embroidery of Aintab” during an event held as part of the Days of Aintab Program at the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran). First Lady of the Republic of Armenia Rita Sargsyan honored the event with her presence.

Author of the book Hrazdan Tokmajyan introduced the two-volume book and showed photos of samples of embroidery in Aintab. “I’m very grateful to all of you for the release of this book. The book was compiled in Syria, and the materials were provided by people from Lebanon and the United States. The book is in two languages (Armenian and English). We have also presented the momentum that embroidery of Aintab is gaining in Armenia. I believe it is a good book,” Hrazdan Tokmajyan mentioned, adding that the book features manuscripts that exist to this day, as “Armenpress” reports.

Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyanmentioned that the Battle of Aintab took place 95 years ago and that even though the Armenians lost their homeland, culture and arts, they not only managed to build schools and churches, but also create culture.

First Lady of the Republic of Armenia Rita Sargsyan confessed that she had really liked the exhibition. “I like embroidery. Moreover, as I was looking through this book, I realized that Armenian women sewed the same things, even though they lived in different places. I used to make embroidery during the Karabakh war. I’m very pleased to see the vintage style, which is trendy,” the First lady mentioned during a press conference.
