Armenian family-killed Permyakov to face forensic expertise

YEREVAN, MARCH 5, ARMENPRESS: The inquest authorities conducting the probe into the January 12 family murder in Gyumri have assigned a forensic-psychiatric expert examination for Valery Permyakov, the Russian military base serviceman accused of committing the tragic crime, Armenpress reports, citing Interfax.
“The expert examination is being conducted at the 102nd military base stationed in Armenia and is due to finish in about a fortnight,” a source familiar with the matter is quoted as telling the agency.
The source added that experts have to evaluate Permyakov’s condition and declare a diagnosis before the further proceeding continues. “All the rumors that Permyakov has been already diagnosed with mental disorders are based on reports. The expert examination results are not yet available.”

The source said that the inquest “is conducted in close cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies.”
The source further denied the media reports that the Russian side is not willing to take prompt action to finish the probe to enable a court prosecution.
“No long-drawn-out processes during the inquest. All the investigative operations coincide with the timing,” added the source.
Permyakov is the main accused in the brutal murder that saw six of the seven-member Avetisyan family stabbed to death in their house early in the morning. The only survivor who died a week later unable to survive the post-traumatic shock was the six-month-old Seryozha Avetisyan. Permyakov was caught by Russian defense guards late on January 12 as he was trying to cross the Armenian-Turkish border. He was handed over to the military base’s leadership.
