Syrian People's Assembly holds parliamentary hearings devoted to Armenian Genocide

YEREVAN, 4 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. The Syrian People’s Assembly convoked a session dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The session was organized by member of the Assembly’s human rights and foreign relations committees Maria Saade and other MPs. As the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, prior to the launch of the session, Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly, Dr. Mohammad Jihad al-Laham received Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Syria Arshak Poladyan; leader of the Armenian Diocese of Damascus, Father, Bishop Armash Nalbandian; spiritual representative of the Catholic Community, Archimandrite Kevork Bahi; the leaders of municipal and provincial assemblies of the Armenian community of Damascus, as well as members of the committee coordinating the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Syria.

Mohammad Jihad al-Laham greeted Ambassador Poladyan and his accompanying delegates, after which the participants of the meeting discussed issues relating to the Armenian-Syrian inter-parliamentary cooperation. During the meeting, Ambassador Poladyan talked about the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The meeting with the president of the Syrian People’s Assembly was followed by the Assembly’s session dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Syrian People’s Assembly and mentioned the important fact that Syria became a milestone for Armenians who escaped the Armenian Genocide and is a milestone 100 years later by organizing this event in parliament.
