Republican MP calls on opposition to collaborate and be constructive

YEREVAN, 3 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. Deputy of the faction of the Republican Party of Armenia Sukias Avetisyan considers the situation within the opposition troubling. This is what the MP said during a press conference, as “Armenpress” reports. “Members of the opposition have started organizing campaigns against each other. I think they have to try to come together. They have to be constructive and work with the government in order to not disappoint the society,” Sukias Avetisyan said, adding that the authorities have always helped the opposition be able to express its views in the National Assembly and at squares.

Former deputy of the Supreme Council and National Assembly Azat Arshakyan blames the authorities for the current situation. “The authorities are to blame for everything. The authorities shouldn’t create an opposition in their favor and easy to win, but an opposition that will come to replace the authorities. By opposition, I mean the successor of the authorities,” Azat Arshakyan said. The former MP says there is a need for new laws on political parties and elections, but Sukias Avetisyan believes there is no problem with the legislation and says the laws don’t stand in the opposition’s way.

Referring to Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s speech, the Republican MP mentioned that he would advise him not to give such speeches as the country’s former president. "If he has supporters, they should consult with him and not let him give such speeches in front of the people as the former president of the country," Sukias Avetisyan mentioned.
