Best dressed celebrities at Oscars 2015

Best dressed celebrities at Oscars 2015

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 23, ARMENPRESS. Last year might have been Lupita Nyong’o's year, but she continued her sartorial dominance as the best dressed on the 87th Annual Academy Awards red carpet in custom Calvin Klein Collection.

The beautiful custom gown created by Francisco Costa featured cascading strands of 6,000 pearls and was paired with Chopard jewels.

As reports “Armenpress” citing Forbes, Anna Kendrick wowed the crowd early on, in a custom pink Thakoon gown. Margot Robbie, too, stole the crowd’s attention early in the night in a plunging Saint Laurent dress and a statement Van Cleef & Arpels necklace made in the 1930s for the Duchess of Windsor. Naomi Watts added a dose of high fashion glamour in an unconventional Armani Privé gown paired with perfectly un-coiffed hair.

The usual suspects — Julianne Moore in custom Chanel Haute Couture designed by Karl Lagerfeld, Emma Stone in a citrus, beaded Elie Saab couture number and Cate Blanchett in a statement necklace — all make the list; while Behati Prinsloo is a welcome addition in a red and black Armani Privé gown.

Red wasn’t just reserved for the carpet; many of the best looks of the night picked up the vibrant hue. Dakota Johnson chose a crimson Saint Laurent dress for her first major red carpet appearance after the 50 Shades of Grey opening, paired with a sleek pony tail. Rosamund Pike also opted for a red gown, wearing a Givenchy number with textured floral motif, her best choice by far of the awards show season. Solange Knowles didn’t wear a gown, but her vibrant Christian Siriano crepe cape top and pant proved you don’t need to wear a dress to steal the show at the Oscars. And David Oyelowo shook up the mens’ looks, rocking a red Dolce & Gabbana tux.

Surprisingly, celebrities didn’t all play it safe at Hollywood’s biggest night. Perhaps tired of the mermaid gowns and sequined columns that usually parade down the carpet, some of the biggest names in the industry decided to mix things up.

You can always count on Marion Cotillard to make things interesting (and not to everyone’s satisfaction): Her voluminous Dior Haute Couture gown, which she paired with Chopard jewels, was a striking contrast to the sleeker gowns that dominated the carpet. And hers wasn’t the only unconventional look of the night, with Keira Knightly choosing an ethereal yet playful Valentino and Felicity Jones in a statement-making Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown.

White and neutral tones continued to dominate the final red carpet of the season, with Zoe Saldana opting for a classic old Hollywood glamour look, in a blush pink Atelier Versace gown and a Harry Winston diamond drop necklace and Kerry Washington choosing a sleek, tiered Miu Miu number.

Many people were anticipating the men’s clothing choices more than the women’s, and Jared Leto certainly didn’t disappoint in a lavender tuxedo and white shoes (whether or not it was a good look is up for debate). Host Neil Patrick Harris picked an unconventional grey tuxedo. Eddie Redmayne opted for another navy and black tux, as did Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller in Prada. Michael Keaton’s look was fit for an Oscar-winning actor, and Oscar-nominee Common had one of the best men’s looks of the night, in a Prada tux with a velvet blazer and Fred Leighton jewelry.No-fuss hair and neutral makeup were the beauty looks of the night: Behati Prinsloo, Jennifer Lopez, Rosamund Pike, Jessica Chastain and Reese Witherspoon all allowed their dresses to take center stage.
