Four trekkers died in avalanche in Himalayas

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, ARMENPRESS: Four trekkers have been killed and dozens more are missing in blizzards in the Himalayas in Nepal, Armenpress reports citing BBC.

Two Poles, an Israeli and a Nepalese national are reported to be among those who died. Forty others were rescued.

The army has deployed helicopters and troops are searching for more survivors near the Thorung La mountain pass on the Annapurna Circuit.

The bad weather at the height of Nepal's tourist season is being blamed on the tail end of Cyclone Hudhud.

Hudhud hit south-east India earlier this week - satellite pictures now show it moving away from Nepal towards China, BBC Nepali's Rama Parajuli reports from Kathmandu.

A senior official in Mustang district, 200km (125 miles) north-west of Kathmandu, said five other Poles, four Israelis and five Germans had been rescued after a massive snowfall some 4,500m above sea level.

In a separate incident not far away, three Nepalese farmers died in an avalanche.
