Teodor Axentowicz’s works exhibited at National Gallery of Armenia

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS:  Fifty-three works by Polish-Armenian painter Teodor Axentowicz are exhibited at the National Gallery of Armenia.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, First Lady of Armenia Rita Sargsyan, First Lady of Poland Anna Komorowska, Culture Minister of Armenia Hasmik Poghosyan and other top officials, ambassadors, public and cultural figures attended the exhibition, which is held under the high patronage of the Presidents of Armenia and Poland.

Director of the National Gallery of Armenia Paravon Mirzoyan highlighted conduction of the exhibition qualifying it as historic. He presented the first ladies of Armenia and Poland with “Teodor Axentowicz” commemorative coin issued by the Central bank of Armenia.

Sopot Art Gallery Director Zbigniew Buski underscored that it is a big honor for them to exhibit the works by the distinguished Polish-Armenian artist in Armenia, Armenpress reports.

Teodor Axentowicz (born May 13, 1859 in Braşov, Romania – August 26, 1938 in Kraków) was a Polish-Armenian painter and university professor. A renowned artist of his times, he was also the rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. As an artist, Axentowicz was famous for his portraits and subtle scenes of Hutsul life, set in the Carpathians.
