Aronian plays draw with Ponomariov

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS: The leader of the Armenian men’s chess team Levon Aronian played another draw at the Grand Slam tournament. In the fourth round Aronian faced Ruslan Ponomariov. The grand masters made 41 moves and agreed to draw. The leader of the tournament is Viswanathan Anand with 6 points and in the last position is Ponomariov with 4 points. In the next round Aronian will play with Vallejo Pons.
The current world champion Magnus Carlsen refused to take part in the tournament to prepare for the defense of the World Chess Championship title.
Levon Aronian is participating in the Grand Slam Chess Masters Final held on September 14-21, 2014 in Bilbao, Spain. The rivals of Aronian are Viswanathan Anand (India), Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) and Francisco Vallejo Pons (Spain).
At the tournament 3 points are given for a victory and 1 point for a draw. Let us remind that Aronian won at the Grand Slam twice – in 2009 and 2013.
