Aronian plays draw with Anand

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. The leader of the Armenian men’s chess team Levon Aronian, who occupies the second position in the FIDE ranking list, played draw in the match against the former world champion Viswanathan Anand.

In the 3rd round of Grand Slam Chess Masters Final, the Armenian GM Levon Aronian faced with Viswanathan Anand representing India. The GMs ended the match on the 30th move and shared a point. In the next round Levon Aronian will play against Ruslan Ponomariov representing Ukraine.

Previously it was reported that before the match Levon Aronian underscored: “I am always looking forward to the matches with Anand. He is a truly good chess player. The chess players like challenges and the match against Anand is a challenge.”

GM Levon Aronian is participating in the Grand Slam Chess Masters Final held on September 14-20, 2014 in Bilbao, Spain. The rivals of Aronian are Viswanathan Anand (India), Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) and Francisco Vallejo Pons (Spain).

At the tournament 3 points are given for a victory and 1 point for a draw. Let us remind that Aronian won at the Grand Slam twice – in 2009 and 2013.
