Scotland’s referendum is very important signal in terms of self-determination of people: politician

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS: The phenomenon of the national self-determination referendum scheduled to be held in Scotland is already considered unprecedented and can be an impetus for regulation of unsettled conflicts and for unrecognized states. According to Director of Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan, the government of Great Britain does not hinder its citizens’ will to be free and does not convince the opposite with tanks and artillery.

“Instead it promises new economic and social opportunities,” said Sergey Minasyan in an interview with Armenpress, adding that in both cases the referendum to be held in Scotland will be positive for Nagorno Karabakh.

“If the referendum is held and majority of the Scots vote for independence, it will be an important platform and a very important signal to international community in terms of self-determination. If people vote against independence, it will again be positive because it is already obvious how Great Britain treats self-determination of peoples, and it will again be unprecedented for the states that resist to accept the idea of self-determination,” said Sergey Minasyan.
