YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Upon the initiative of the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet after Alexander Spendiaryan, the Karabakh premiere of Avet Terteryan’s “Ring of Fire” opera was held on September 1 in the Shushi Castle. The President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan watched the premiere of Avet Terteryan’s “Ring of Fire” opera, dedicated to Artsakh’s Independence Day and famous composer Avet Terteryan’s 85th birthday anniversary. President Serzh Sargsyan’s working visit to Karabakh continues.

Avet Terterian was an Armenian composer, awarded the Konrad Adenauer Prize. He was a friend and colleague of Giya Kancheli, Konstantin Orbelyan, and Tigran Mansuryan. Dmitri Shostakovich praised Terterian as "very talented" and "with great future" in one of his letters, published by his friend Isaak Glikman, having heard a recording of Terterian's works at Armenia's "House of Composers" summer resort, in Dilijan, Armenia. He composed eight (completed) symphonies, an opera and several chamber works.
