Traffic in Darial Gorge will be restored in 2 weeks

YEREVAN, AUGUST 21, ARMENPRESS.The Georgian Military Road will be restored in two weeks, said Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili who has visited the disaster-struck area, “Armenpress” reports. The pipeline supplying Armenia with Russian gas was damaged by a mudslide that blocked the road in the Darial Gorge yesterday. Margvelashvili reminded that the pipeline had been fixed quickly last time.

Traffic on the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road connecting Armenia and Georgia has been restored. The road is still being cleared of rocks that fell on the 26th km as a result of a landslide near Dseg (Lori Region of Armenia) caused by heavy rain. The road was closed at about 6.00pm on Wednesday. 

Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili is visiting the Darial Gorge that was hit by a mudslide from the Devdorak Glacier on the 134th km of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars road at about 10.00pm yesterday. The mudslide blocked the Georgian Military Road and damaged the North Caucasus – Trans-Caucasus gas pipeline connecting Russia and Armenia.
