YEREVAN, AUGUST 16, ARMENPRESS. In the result of the final stage of Tank Biathlon World Championship, the Armenian team occupied the second place. As reports “Armenpress”, the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Artzrun Hovhannisyan posted a note on this on Facebook.

Among other things, the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Artzrun Hovhannisyan stated: “The final 2nd place was confirmed. It’s brilliant. This is a brilliant result in the competition with the strongest countries of the world.”

Previously RIA Novosti reported that Russia, Kazakhstan, China, and Armenia were in the final. The Russian MOD Press Service and Information Department stated that in the final round, three crews from each team will pass through three circuits which are four kilometers, each, and with one tank and changing crews.

Participating in the August 8 short course event were 36 tanks from 12 countries, which were required to speed against all kinds of obstacles while shooting at movable targets that appeared suddenly on the way.

Tank Biathlon World Championship was held outside Moscow. Teams from Angola, Armenia, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia and Venezuela were participating in the competition.

World Championship  “Tank biathlon 2014” was held in Moscow’s Alabino military training site and consisted of 2 tournaments “Sprint” and “Persecution tournament”.

Tank biathlon is a mechanized military sport invented in Russia. It is designed to be very similar to the regular biathlon. Competing teams need to overcome several obstacles like a slalom section, a ford, a steep hill, a panel bridge and an escarpment and hit targets simulating tanks and low-flying helicopters.
