YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS. Today, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the President's Staff, at the beginning of the meeting the President congratulated Herbert Salber on his appointment as EU Special Representative, and expressed hope that during his tenure, he will have his personal contribution in the deepening of relations between Armenia and the European Union, at the same time will use his experience, gained especially at the position of the Director of the OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre, for the benefit of strengthening peace and stability in our region. Serzh Sargsyan underscored that Armenia attaches great importance to the position of the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and assured that our country is ready for constructive cooperation.

Herbert Salber stressed that with his appointment the European Union wants to send a signal of readiness for participating in the settlement of the current conflicts and cooperating. According to him, shortly after his appointment his visit to the three countries of the region pursues this very goal.

During the meeting the President of the Republic of Armenia and the EU Special Representative referred to Armenia-EU relations and cooperation.
