Real and preaching expectations of Davutoğlu’s visit to Yerevan: analysis

Real and preaching expectations of Davutoğlu’s visit to Yerevan: analysis

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS. The participation of the Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoğlu in the session of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Council to be held in Yerevan has definitely shadowed even the significance of the meeting and has focused the attention of the Mass Media and the expert society to the stalled Armenian-Turkish relations and the expected possibility for their resumption. Naturally, the Turkish (as well as Azerbaijani) and Armenian frames express radically different opinions and prediction before the visit of Davutoğlu.

Thus, the Turkish Mass Media and experts try to raise the visit from working to the official level claiming that Davutoğlu arrives in Yerevan not only to participate in the meeting but that he has taken a special mission:  he is going to convey the message of the President of Turkey to the President of the Republic of Armenia and meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Nalbandyan. After the statement of the visit of Davutoğlu when the expert society expressed hope that more favorable conditions will be established for the settlement of the relations than they were when signing the Zurich protocols, Davutoğlu himself made a series of provocative statements which immediately excluded the minor possibility for the settlement.
