"Parajanov" movie included in the long list of the 2014 Foreign Language Film Oscar

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 8, ARMENPRESS. Serge Avedikian's and Olena Fetisova's "Parajanov" movie  has been included in the long list of the 2014 Foreign Language Film Oscar, reports Armenpress referring to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday that a record 76 films have been submitted for the category this year. That number is up from the 71 films that were submitted last year.

Earlier, in a conversation with "Armenpress" Serge Avedikian stated from Paris that the Ukrainian commission nominated the movie dedicated to the life of prominent Armenian filmmaker to the Oscar Awards.

"Paradjanov" stars Avedikian as a brilliant director Sergey Paradjanov, whose nonconformist behavior conflicts with Soviet System. Parajanov’s eccentricities land him in jail, where his indestructible love for beauty allows him to withstand the years of imprisonment, isolation and oblivion.

"Parajanov," co-produced with Ukraine, France, Georgia and Armenia, was named the best feature film at Odessa Festival.

Ukraine will announce its Oscar foreign language entry on September 12.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2013 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

Countries entering their first-ever submissions include Moldova, Saudi Arabia and Montenegro, for the first time as an independent country. Pakistan also submitted a film for the first time in 50 years. The nominees, which will be announced Jan. 16, will be determined by committees set up by the foreign-language branch. But this year, the final vote is being opened up to all Academy members. In prior years, members who wanted to vote in the category had to see all five nominees at theatrical screenings, but this year, the Academy will make screeners of all the nominees available to all its members, making it easier for them to cast a ballot.
