Czech Deputy Prime Karel Schwarzenberg spoke about real miserable situation of 
“amazing” Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, MARCH 5, ARMENPRESS: Official Homo Homini award ceremony of 15th “One World” Czech festival of films focusing on human rights took place on March 4 in St. Annishka Church of Prague. Award is given by the organizer of the festival “People in Need” organization. Azerbaijani lawyer Intigam Aliyev was presented with the Homo Homini prize for human rights promotion and defence this year.

When handing the award, deputy Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg has considered the ostrich represented on this year official poster of the festival to be symbolic as it shows Azerbaijani nowadays situation. “Azerbaijan is speaking about the human rights with the head buried in sand,” Foreign Minister noted.

He noted that the award was given to a person who struggles for human rights in conditions of dictatorship.

Representative of “People in Need” organization has highly evaluated Aliyev’s courageous work noting that defending political figures and journalists he puts his life in danger.

Afterwards Intigam Aliyev has delivered a speech, presenting current situation in Azerbaijan and expressing gratitude for the award. He spoke about the case which had been much spoken about and in which he presented as the lawyer.

Then he has posed a question on why Europe suggests such authoritarian regime which spends millions of dollars on holding the Eurovision but leaves thousands of villages without water and electricity.
