YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received on November 2 the delegation led by President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium Christine Defraigne.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Armenian President’s Office, the President of the Republic greeted the guests and highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in developing relations between the two states. “You are hosted by a country where Belgium is perceived as a friendly state and reliable partner the relations with which are based on historically cordial interactions, mutual trust and a common value system and development vision.

Mrs. Defraigne, it’s a great pleasure for us to welcome you in Armenia, since you are a figure who is constantly engaged in issues of Armenian concern. For years you spared no efforts to deepen Armenian-Belgian relations. You are always welcome in Armenia”, President Sargsyan said.

The President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Belgium thanked the Armenian President for the cordial words and reception, mentioning that she shares the assessment of Serzh Sargsyan over the relations between Armenia and Belgium. “Referring to one of the evidences of our common values I have to mention that back in 1998 the Belgian Senate was one of the first European countries that adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, a powerful resolution that was followed by the resolution of the Chamber of Representatives and the speech of the Prime Minister of the country Charles Michel that left no room for misunderstanding. And that is of key importance, since we have to transfer the legacy to the future generation”, Christine Defraigne said.

The parties also discussed the opportunities to develop relations and cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest, as well as touched upon regional challenges and issues, including the settlement process of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
