Armenia can take the initiative to present the second Convention on the Crime of Genocide: historian
YEREVAN, 22 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. A second Convention on the Crime of Genocide needs to be adopted in order to reinforce the mechanisms for the prevention of genocides. This is what Armenian American historian, literary critic at the University of Boston Simon Payaslian said during the international conference on “International Legal Issues on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide and Liability”, which is being held on the sidelines of the global forum entitled “Against the Crime of Genocide”. “The current Convention doesn’t say a lot about the prevention. It contains examples of punishment, but not prevention. There is a need to develop the second Convention on the Crime of Genocide that will especially have a direct impact on prevention,” Simon Payaslian mentioned, as “Armenpress” reports.
According to him, holding the April 22-23 global forum in Yerevan and raising the level of the world’s awareness about the Armenian Genocide serve as a wonderful opportunity for Armenia to become engaged in the development of the mentioned second Convention.
