YEREVAN, OCTOBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) Congress 2016 will be held on October 26-28 in the “Meridian” Jewelry Free Economic Zone, reports “Armenpress”.

84 delegates from 25 countries are taking part in the Congress.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan delivered a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of the Congress. “We are pleased to host the unique world parliament’s, the World Jewellery Confederation’s (CIBJO) Congress regulating your field. We attach importance on holding this Congress in our country. Armenia and the Armenian people worldwide had a great input on the jewelry and gemstone development, they have their solid place in the chronicle of this sector. The successful works of the Armenian jewelers, their activities in various countries contributed to the development of the sector, they have established jewelry businesses and shops in New York and Paris, Moscow and London, Constantinople and Beirut, Cairo and many other countries. Excellent prices of art jewelry, diamond-encrusted thrones and crowns, crosses and medals, luxurious trimmings and mugs have been created by their hands. Today consistent works are carried out in Armenia towards the development of jewelry and gemstone”, President Sargsyan said adding that this branch is declared as one of the priority strategic areas of the country’s economy.

Describing itself as the “United Nations of the jewellery business,” CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, represents the interests of all individuals, organisations and companies earning their livelihoods from jewellery, gemstones and precious metals. It is the oldest international organization in jewellery sector, having originally been established in 1926.

With its membership made up largely by national jewellery trade organizations from more than 40 countries around the world, CIBJO covers the entire jewellery, gemstone and precious metals sectors vertically, from mine to marketplace, and horizontally within each of the component sectors in the various production, manufacturing and trading centres. Most of the international jewellery sector’s leading corporations and service providers are also affiliated to CIBJO through commercial membership. Armenian Jewellers Association is also CIBJO member.
