News on Armenian church in Diyarbakir being under PKK gunmen’s control - denied

YEREVAN, JANUARY 30, ARMENPRESS. Armenian church of SurpGiragos in Diyarbakir has not suffered any damage till now due to the clashes between the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the Turkish armed forces, the caretaker of the ancient Armenian church GaffurTurkay told “Armenpress”.

He said that religious ceremonies are not being held in the church at the moment, as the curfew still continues.

Turkay denied the news spread in media that PKK gunmen intruded into the territory of the church and use the Armenian church of SurpGiragos to fight the Turkish soldiers.

“There is no such a thing. All the doors of the church are closed, it has not suffered any damage till this moment and we hope it will never be damaged,” GaffurTurkay concluded.
