 Collection of poems “Libretto for the Desert” dedicated to Armenian Genocide is presented

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS.  Armenian American poet Sona Van’s collection “Libretto for the Desert” is a new wave among the books referring to the Genocide. The collection inspires not only Armenians but also foreigners. The opinion belongs to the Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan, who expressed it on November 26 during the presentation of the book “Libretto for the Desert”.

“I believe that Sona will have much more achievements and we will have numerous reasons to be proud of her. Sona, being doctor- psychologist, tries to cure by her poems… I am very proud that Sona’s works are translated into dozens of languages and she is already prominent in the Armenian public”, “Armenpress” reports, the Minister said.

The poet said that she wrote the book 4 years ago, after visiting Western Armenia. The collection is dedicated to the victims of the Genocide.

“After returning from the journey I was unable to get rid of the ghosts that pursued me for a long time. I grew up in a survived family and heard stories about the Genocide mainly from my aunt, who was planning to get married in Van in the year of the Genocide; her wedding dress was ready but the Turkish brigands hampered”, the poet said.

Sona Van mentioned that “Libretto for the Desert” poems have universal value and she tried to write them so that are comprehensible not only for Armenian readers but all other peoples.  Libretto for the Desert” was presented with the support of Republic of Armenia Ministry of Diaspora. Sona Van dedicated the collection of the poems to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
