High ranking UN official highly appreciates Armenia’s contribution in peacekeeping missions

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS.  The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, received Edmond Mulet, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, on October 5. Greeting the guest, Minister Nalbandian highlighted UN’s leading role in maintaining peace and security throughout the world, emphasizing that Armenia attaches great importance to peacekeeping operations.

As “Armenpress” was informed from Department of Press, Information and Public Relations, thanking for the reception, Edmond Mulet mentioned that the necessity of peacekeeping missions has rose in parallel with the rise in the number of conflicts throughout the world.

The interlocutors referred to Armenia’s involvement in peacekeeping missions. In this context,the high ranking UN official highly appreciated Armenia’s contribution in peacekeeping missions in different countries. Minister Nalbandian mentioned that the geography of Armenia’s peacekeeping missions (Kosovo, Iraq, Lebanon, and Mali) demonstrates the importance that Armenia attaches to world peace.

Edward Nalbandian emphasized that the development of peacekeeping capabilities within the CSTO is among Armenia’s priorities as the country presiding the CSTO. In that regard, the Minister highlighted the partnership between the CSTO and UN peacekeeping directorate within the framework of the memorandum signed in 2012.
