Serj Tankian on the uniqueness of the song “100 Years”

YEREVAN, 25 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. We started composing the song “100 Years” in minor and ended with a feeling of motivation. This is how Armenian American rock musician, songwriter and lead singer of the band System of a Down, Serj Tankian said during an April 25 meeting at TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, interpreting the song that he and famous New Zealand composer had written in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

“I wrote “100 Years” with another composer. John Psatas is my friend from New Zealand. We worked on the song together. He asked me what I was going to do for the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. I told him I was doing something with System of a Down, and he offered to write a song. I wrote the first five minutes of the song, and he wrote the second part. The idea was to start with a feeling of sadness, that is, with the topic of the genocide, and end with a feeling of motivation,” Serj Tankian mentioned, as “Armenpress” reports.

The song is devoted to those who are fighting for the truth about the first genocide of the 20th century and the following genocides, as well as for recognition and justice.
