YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS. Iraqi lawmaker Kazim as Sayadi has proposed to hang a picture depicting former President Saddam Hussein handcuffed and on trial in the parliament’s session hall, Shafaaq News reported.

According to Sayadi, this will act as “an example and reminder to all Iraqi officials that power cannot be usurped and rest in the hands of one man”.

In a written proposal sent to parliament, the MP said that the picture should be hanged not only in the parliament but also in the government house.

Saddam Hussein was President of Iraq from 1979 until 2003.

In 2003, a coalition led by the United States invaded Iraq to depose Saddam.

Saddam's Ba'ath party was disbanded and elections were held. Following his capture in late 2003, Saddam Hussein was tried by the Iraqi Interim Government. Three years later he was convicted of crimes against humanity in relation to the 1982 killing of 148 Iraqi Shia and sentenced to death.

He was executed by hanging in December of 2006.
