YEREVAN, DECEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov on December 4 participated in the international conference titled ‘Members of Parliament vs Drugs’ at the invitation of the Russian State Duma during which he delivered speech, press service of the Parliament told Armenpress.

Sharmazanov said the drug trafficking and their illegal circulation issues are a threat to the international community. “This crime is closely linked to other challenges, including international terrorism and illegal money laundering. Given that the illegal circulation of drugs is a challenge to today’s world, I want to state that it is also a threat to security. The fight against this phenomenon requires a united and coordinated effort. Armenia urges to carry out a more decisive fight against this disease and develop a common strategy to counter this threat. Armenia has a similar effective experience with the CSTO member states, and this conference can open a new page and opportunity against these threats”, Eduard Sharmazanov said.

The Vice Speaker noted with regret that during the conference they once again witnessed the fake and anti-Armenian rhetoric of the Azerbaijani representatives. “Instead of making meaningless accusations on Armenia and Artsakh, they would rather read the international reports about Azerbaijan. And I call on the participants of absurd remarks on Artsakh and all international partners to visit Artsakh. Visit and you will see that the citizens of Artsakh are building a democratic, free and independent Republic. I call on all of us to fight against terrorism, lie, racism, drug trafficking and all international challenges through joint efforts”, he said.

“Summing up my speech, taking into account the relevance of the issue, I suggest to discuss the main topic of the ‘Members of Parliament vs Drugs’ conference”, Sharmazanov added.
