GYUMRI, SEPTEMBER 16, ARMENPRESS. The 5th anniversary of reopening of “Hill of Honor” monument was celebrated in Gyumri. The Governor of Shirak Province Feliks Tsolakyan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, Ivan Volinkin, Consul General of Russia to Armenia, Yevgeny Konyshev, Mayor of Gyumri, Samvel Balasanyan and other officials attended the ceremony. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, Ivan Volinkin, attached great importance to the centuries-old Russian-Armenian friendship during his speech, mentioning that “this monument is an excellent proof of that friendship”. Shirak Governor emphasized in his speech that the opening of the “Hill of Honor” monument could really be considered a historical event. “This monument reopened 5 years ago, on August 20. The Presidents of the RF and the Republic of Armenia attended the solemn opening ceremony. This event further deepened the centuries-old Armenian-Russian friendship. The reopening of the monument was another proof that “our nations remember and incense their sons” who died for the sake of freedom. Today, after 5 years, we are here to keep their memory alive and once again thank those who spared no efforts to reconstruct the complex”, Feliks Tsolakyan mentioned.

Russian soldiers killed during the Russo-Turkish War of 1855 are buried in the “Hill of Honor” memorial.
