April 24th declared as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day in New York

YEREVAN, 21 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. On April 21, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a proclamation declaring April 24, 2015 as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, ANCA reports, according to “Armenpress”.

With this, New York State has paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. “This year marks the 100th anniversary of the tragic events during which, on April 24, 1915, hundreds of Armenian clergymen, intellectuals and prominent individuals were arrested and imprisoned in Constantinople, marking the start of the eight-year period of killings, sentencing and exile of 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire,” the proclamation reads.
