YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS: On September 24-25, the Jews of Armenia celebrate the Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah, which symbolizes creation of the universe.

Today Armenpress visited the synagogue - Jewish house of prayer, to celebrate the start of the 5775th year in the Jewish calendar together with the members of the Jewish community.

Gradually gathered the local Jews, welcomed each other and went upstairs. The staircases were decorated with ornaments of grape clusters. Jews congratulate each other by saying “Shanah tovah” which means “Happy New Year”.

Entering the chapel, they kiss the medusa hang from the door, on which an episode from the Jewish Holy Bible is depicted.

After a six-hour prayer they open a festive table, which is called “kiddush”.
