Prosecution should be transparent for media: Armenia’s Prosecutor General

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 8, ARMENPRESS։ The coordination of the relations with the mass media, the formation of the public opinion about the prosecution’s activities and the strengthening of trust should be an urgent issue for the prosecution. This was stated by the newly appointed Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan at the opening of the 8th plenary session of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors. “The organization of the plenary session of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors in Yerevan is symbolic, taking into account the period of the Armenia’s chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The role of the CCPE is quite significant in the struggle against the modern challenges. The coordinated regulation of the relations with the mass media is very important to us”, - noted the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan, as reported by Armenpress. 

The Director General of the Council of Europe’s Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law Philippe Boillat congratulated Gevorg Kostanyan on the ocassion of the appointment and expressed his hope that they will implement efficient work with the Republic of Armenia.

The session is attended by the delegations from about 40 countries. The plenary session of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors will last for two days – from October 8 to 9.

On October 8 2013 the 8th plenary meeting of Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) was launched in Yerevan. During the plenary meeting of CCPE the project of the opinion N 8 “On Interrelation between Prosecutions and Mass Media” is being discussed. This is the second plenary meeting convened by CCPE in Yerevan, which also testifies about the international reputation of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia. The first plenary meeting was convened in Yerevan by CCPE in October, 2010 “On Juvenile Justice”, during which the fifth CCPE opinion – “Yerevan Declaration” was adopted.
