Arkansas await Tropical storm Isaac

YEREVAN, AUGUST 31, ARMENPRESS: Hurricane Isaac may have been downgraded to a tropical storm but the cyclone is still heading inland towards the US states of Arkansas. As Armenpress reports citing Euronews, around 60,000 Louisiana residents have sought refuge in temporary shelters after their homes were flooded and power was cut to half of the state. New Orleans' new storm barriers, built at a cost of billions of dollars after Hurricane Katrina,  have helped the city withstand a similar disaster. Forecasters say Isaac is still a major threat to life and America’s reserve military force, the National Guard has been called in to help in the rescue and evacuation efforts. But most residents of New Orleans are breathing a sigh of relief. The latest hurricane to strike their city has caused just a fraction of the destruction that Katrina did seven years ago, when 1800 people died.
