Passions run high in parliament as opposition BHK storms out as “political boycott”

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. The opposition Prosperous Armenia (BHK) party left parliament as it was in midst of a session as a sign of “political boycott” against the session.

“[Gagik] Tsarukyan’s single sentence regarding investments has become a madness festival for two days,” BHK lawmaker Arman Abovyan said from parliament floor, referring to the highly publicized remarks by the BHK leader who claimed that wealthy Emirati businessmen had come to make investments in Yerevan but were disappointed after a meeting with Mayor Hayk Marutyan. These remarks became a hot topic of discussion during unrelated debates in parliament today.

“The topic was that investments are impossible to be implemented in Armenia. We cannot work in these conditions, today we are leaving parliament, and you are the ones that will answer why we couldn’t ask our questions to the Cabinet,” he said, referring to a Cabinet Q&A that is due shortly.

“We are doing a political boycott”, he said.
