Azerbaijani leadership seeks to dissolve parliament

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan’s ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) has decided to dissolve parliament and call early elections, according to Region Monitor news portal.

The decision was made at a special session of the YAP political board.

The decision to dissolve parliament will be brought to the agenda on November 29. YAP holds absolute majority in the Azerbaijani parliament.

YAP explained the decision by claiming that the incumbent parliament is not functioning in line with President Aliyev’s policy course and is staying behind from reforms.

The ruling party’s session was not announced beforehand and only today information emerged.

The most recent parliamentary election in Azerbaijan took place in 2015.  The next regular election was scheduled for 2020.
