Albania jolted by most powerful earthquake in decades

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. A 6,4 magnitude earthquake hit Albania shortly before 4am local time.

The Armenian Seismic Protection Service put the tremor’s coordinates at the Adriatic Sea, 34km northwest from Tirana.

According to media reports the worst damage to buildings was in Durres, a port town.

The earthquake was the strongest to strike the country in decades.

There are conflicting reports about injuries.

According to Reuters 1 person died in Kurbin.

The quake struck just two months after dozens of people were injured and hundreds of homes were damaged in the same area after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake on September 21st.

Firefighters and the military were helping residents caught under the rubble in Durres and the nearby village of Thumane, a Defence Ministry spokesperson said.
