Our Government’s goal is replacing sectionalism with pan-Armenian ideology – PM Pashinyan
YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is in Italy on an official visit, where he started his visit from Mekhitarian Congregation, San Lazzaro Island.
As ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan met with the spiritual leaders of Mekhitarian Congregation an the representatives of the Armenian community of Venice.
Pontifical Delegate of the Mekhitarist Congregation, Prelate of the Armenian Catholic Church in Turkey Archbishop Levon Zekian welcomed Nikol Pashinyan on behalf of the Congregation and the Armenian community and wished him success and state activities.
Thanking for the warm reception, PM Pashinyan said,
I am very glad for this opportunity. I want to once again emphasize that of course, the formal reason for visiting here is the flood, which unfortunately damaged also San Lazzaro Island and Mekhitarian Congregation. But, of course, I would definitely look for an opportunity to visit here, since I never had that opportunity in the past and San Lazzaro Island and Mekhitarian Congregation have key historical and modern-time importance. I am confident it will retain its important role in the future as well”, PM Pashinyan said, highlighting the scientific heritage of Mekhitarian Congregation, particularly in the sphere of Armenian studies. Pashinyan wished success to Mekhitarian Congregation and the Armenian people in general.
“I want to note that the one of the key points in the program of the political force that I represent, the “Civil Contract” Party, is preservation and development of identity. This is really very important for us”, Pashinyan said.
He said that he is very happy to meet with the Armenian community of Venice and noted that he always meets with the representatives of the Armenian communities during all his foreign visits. “In terms of national agenda, our Government set a task in Stepanakert, which is replacing sectionalism with pan-Armenian ideology, which means that we think that the Republic of Armenia will be more effective, more competitive and stronger if it presents itself not only as the representative of the Republic of Armenia , but as the representative all the entire Armenian nation”, PM Pashinyan said, emphasizing that the Republic of Armenia is the state of the Armenian nation, all Armenians, irrespective of the fact if they have Armenian citizenship or no. “Of course, our efforts must be directed to that all the Armenians of the world should have Armenian citizenship”, he said.
