Deputy PM calls government’s proposals to solve current crisis in Constitutional Court
constructive

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Avinyan says the government’s proposals aimed at solving the current crisis in the Constitutional Court are very constructive, the deputy PM told reporters commenting on the bill on installing early retirement mechanisms for Constitutional Court judges.

“We have repeatedly talked about this topic, and I think that both we and our international partners have recorded that there is a problem in the Constitutional Court, if not saying a crisis, and this crisis should be solved. The proposals made by the government on solving this issue are very constructive, and this is just a process which needs to be constantly implemented until the final solution of that crisis”, Avinyan said.

On November 14 the Armenian government approved the bill on introducing early retirement mechanism for the Constitutional Court judges. According to the bill, if CC judges, including President of the Court Hrayr Tovmasyan, resign by January 31, 2020, they will continue receiving pension equivalent to their salary before the end of their term in office.
