YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. President Armen Sarkissian received Speaker of Parliament of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zuhurov and his delegation on November 4. Zuhurov arrived in Armenia to take part in the upcoming session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly.

During the meeting Sarkissian highlighted political dialogue between Armenia and Tajikistan and activation of the traditionally warm relations and inter-parliamentary ties, Sarkissian’s Office said in a readout.

At the same time, the Armenian President said that the current level of cooperation does not meet the existing opportunities and that potential for greater partnership exists.

“Old relations and friendship will be appreciated more tomorrow. We must seriously use the wonderful history of our peoples’ friendship,” President Sarkissian said.

Shukurjon Zuhurov conveyed Tajikistani President Emomali Rahmon’s greetings and regards to Sarkissian.

He said that this visit – the first ever visit of a Speaker of Parliament from Tajikistan – will be a productive contribution in the development and enhancement of bilateral relations. He said Tajikistan is interested in boosting partnership in various sectors.

He noted that Armenians live in Tajikistan for a very long time now and always actively participate in the country’s public administration system and various areas of public life.

Sarkissian pointed out education, modern technologies, finance and the banking system, as well as food production and food safety as promising directions for partnership.

According to President Sarkissian cooperation in cultural and humanitarian areas must be highlighted and Cultural Days and Exchange Programs must be held.

Sarkissian presented his Presidential Initiatives in terms of establishing cooperation.
