Private company starts food supply for Armenian prison as Justice Ministry continues reforms

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Justice has launched the pilot program of a new food supply system in prisons at the Nubarashen Correctional Facility.

The ministry said the program will also be introduced in the Armavir prison – the most heavily populated correctional facility in Armenia – from October 16th.

Under the new system the prison food is served by a private catering company.

The ministry said that a new and effective system of food supply and preparation by highly qualified cooks is being introduced.

The new supply system will be tested for 70 days and in the event of a success it will be introduced in other prisons also.

“The Ministry of Justice and the Corrections Service of the Republic of Armenia reiterate their decisiveness in realizing the fundamental guidelines envisaged under the Government Action Plan and implementation of fundamental reforms in the corrections system,” the Ministry of Justice said in a news release, adding that the reforms will be continuous.
